Chapter Eight

They’d been back together for over a week now. Things were good. Perfect. Only they weren’t.

He was keeping the truth from the club.

They didn’t trust Bell, especially after seeing her talking with that Skull Nation prospect. Even though she’d been a victim, they wouldn’t see it like that.

He kept going through every scenario where he came clean because it would be safer for Bell to have the Straight to Hell MC umbrella of protection. Right now, she was just a rat cut loose.

“Can we talk?”

Tank looked up from his logbook. Tarmac stood in front of his desk.

“Yeah. Go ahead.”

Tarmac looked to both sides even though they were the only ones in the office. “I saw that prospect piece-of-shit this morning.”

Tank froze. He dropped his pencil and leaned back in his chair. “Where?”

“Just thought you’d want first go at him since he stole your girlfriend.”

Tank ground his teeth down hard. What did he expect? He’d kept the truth from them.

“Okay. Got it. Where can I find him?”

“You know that shithole apartment near the river? He’s banging some old bitch on the first floor. Shows up there a few times a week. Not just him, either. There are more from Skull Nation. Get your payback quick because I need to let Lord know.”

“Thanks for the heads up.” He nodded to their Road Captain and picked up his pencil again. Only, he couldn’t concentrate.

He could have killed that fucker when he’d met him. Should have. Only he didn’t want to freak out Bell. She was a civilian, and it would have been an end to their already fragile relationship.

Tank didn’t want it getting back to the prez that he’d had the opportunity to eliminate one of their enemies but chose to stand down because of Bell. It would be better for him to confront that biker on his own, make things right. Maybe he’d be able to get some intel out of the little dick to bring back as an offering to Lord. The Skull Nation was becoming a constant topic in church with sightings off and on in the small towns around their compound. It wasn’t good. Tank still remembered their last major encounter when he’d been shot right in the gut.

The recovery had been a bitch, and he had a gnarly scar as a reminder never to lower his guard when it came to their enemies.

He’d take a ride down by the apartment near the river, the one known for housing addicts and whores. If he didn’t spot the guy or his bike today, he would one day soon, if everything Tarmac said was true.

After leaving the office, he went to his room to change. His cell phone went off. That number was etched in his brain.

“What’s up?” he said.

“Are you busy?”

“Never busy for you.”

What the fuck? Did his heart just pitter-patter? He didn’t even recognize himself when it came to Bell.

“Well, there was a grease fire or something in the kitchen, so we were all let off early. Want to hang out?”

There were a lot of things he’d like to do with Bell.
